IWSG-Better Late than Never

The first Wednesday of every month is IWSG, a bloghop hosted by the amazing Alex J. Cavenaugh. IWSG in a safe place to encourage, inspire, and admit our writing doubts to each other.

August!
I do really well at setting goals ... and then failing to reach them in my chosen timeframe. Life keeps coming-like this move that threw my writing and blogging for a serious loop.

Even so, I am determined to finish my current project NO MATTER WHAT. So I keep sludging forward.

What I thought was a puny hill
turns into a mountain
and then a mountain range. I'm climbing the freaking Alps, but I keep going.

Even though it's hard, and the going is steep, I keep moving forward. My goal this past month: open my word document every day. That's it. It's not much progress forward, but it's one more step in the right direction. Hopefully one day I'll stand at the top and be able to say, "I made it."

If you have a chance, a little encouragement for my slow climbing would be appreciated. The Alps are looking rather tall this morning.

Thank you, IWSG!

  1. Aw Robin! Great post. And if you are opening your word document everyday, you are already one step ahead of me, that's for sure! I haven't had time to write, at all. It's been hard to find time to go to the bathroom this summer, let alone be left alone long enough to actually write uninterrupted, LOL.

Do what you can and get back to fitting in the blogging and commenting when you can :)

  2. You're almost there, Robin! You've worked so hard on this book and I know it's going to be worth it. And it doesn't matter how fast you climb, as long as that next step, no matter how teeny, is another step forward. You'll get there. I know it! And don't feel guilty one bit when life happens. Take care of what you need to, we'll all still be here when you get back. <3

  3. But just think of how beautiful it'll be when you get to the top. To see what you've accomplished. You'll get there.

  4. Just think of it this way - how many people don't even bother to try or to set goals? Pat yourself on the back for doing what you are, what you can, and keep going!

Stopping by on the A-Z Road Trip!

  5. Keep going! I get more satisfaction from completing a goal that seemed impossible. You'll get there in the end! :)

  6. That is progress to open the document everyday. Glad you made some progress with your writing. Yes, life does get in the way sometimes.

  7. Robin, no one works harder than you. I admire you so much! You're going to feel all the awesomer for having climbed the Alps than a piddly hill. Love you, girl! You can do this!!

  8. I'm with you on those growing hills. Those darn things turn into mountains every time. ;)Keep up with your small goals and before you know it, they became bigger and more manageable.

    Great IWSG post!

  11. Hello, Robin! So lovely to meet you and thanks so much for connecting with me!

I think your goal is a great one- it's deceptively simple and seems like it might be sneaky in its effectiveness. After all, simply opening up the document doesn't guarantee you'll write anything new, but it also doesn't bar you from unexpectedly pounding out a couple thousand words when a new idea strikes from re-reading what you've got. I should try this method myself- seems like it could be useful.

Anyway, keep climbing and try not to let those nagging little doubts get you stuck. It may take you a whiles yet to reach the top- but just imagine the view once you get there!

  12. Aww, it can be so hard to move forward sometimes. I definitely understand. Sometimes breaks work, and sometimes they are just excuses. For me, I'm like you and just have to keep opening that document and moving forward no matter how slow-going it is. There's always a way out. Sometimes it's giving up on a project to work on a new one (I've only done that with one novel I never finished). Sometimes it's just getting to the top. You will get there!

  13. You've set an attainable goal & that's a move in the right direction. You also have dreams. Another positive move. Unless you're a bird, the only way to reach the mountaintop is one step at a time. And don't forget to enjoy the journey.

  14. I LIKE that goal! I might be able to pull that off, and in the meantime (before time for writing), I'm sure it will keep it fresh in my mind, and keep my mind working.

  15. Oh, I know that feeling! Sometimes it's hard to even open the dang thing up (or get out of bed, as the case may be) keep climbing and you'll get there for sure :)
